Sleeping Tips: 6 steps to help you sleep better

Many factors can interfere with a good night's sleep — from work stress and family responsibilities to illnesses. It's no wonder that quality sleep is sometimes elusive.

Sleeping Tips

You might not be able to control the factors that interfere with your sleep. However, you can adopt habits that encourage better sleep.

Start with these simple tips...

1. Stick to a sleep schedule

  • Set aside no more than eight hours for sleep. The recommended amount of sleep for a healthy adult is at least seven hours. Most people don't need more than eight hours in bed to be well rested. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, including weekends. Being consistent reinforces your body's sleep-wake cycle.
  • If you don't fall asleep within about 20 minutes of going to bed, leave your bedroom and do something relaxing. Read or listen to soothing music. Go back to bed when you're tired. Repeat as needed, but continue to maintain your sleep schedule and wake-up time.

2. Pay attention to what you eat and drink

  • Don't go to bed hungry or stuffed. In particular, avoid heavy or large meals within a couple of hours of bedtime. Discomfort might keep you up.
  • Nicotine, caffeine and alcohol deserve caution, too. The stimulating effects of nicotine and caffeine take hours to wear off and can interfere with sleep. And even though alcohol might make you feel sleepy at first, it can disrupt sleep later in the night.

3. Create a restful environment

  • Keep your room cool, dark and quiet. Exposure to light in the evenings might make it more challenging to fall asleep. Avoid prolonged use of light-emitting screens just before bedtime. Consider using room-darkening shades, earplugs, a fan or other devices to create an environment that suits your needs.
  • Doing calming activities before bedtime, such as taking a bath or using relaxation techniques, might promote better sleep.

4. Limit daytime naps

  • Long daytime naps can interfere with nighttime sleep. Limit naps to no more than one hour and avoid napping late in the day.
  • However, if you work nights, you might need to nap late in the day before work to help make up your sleep debt.

5. Include physical activity in your daily routine

  • Regular physical activity can promote better sleep. However, avoid being active too close to bedtime.
  • Spending time outside every day might be helpful, too.

6. Manage worries

  • Try to resolve your worries or concerns before bedtime. Jot down what's on your mind and then set it aside for tomorrow.
  • Stress management might help. Start with the basics, such as getting organized, setting priorities and delegating tasks. Meditation also can ease anxiety.

Avatar: The Way of Water Movie Review

Avatar The Way of Water Movie Review

The screenplay is weak, the politics are a rehash of the original, and the film has the feel of a mammoth eye-popping, heart-racing videogame. But it takes the theatrical experience up to a new level of sensory pleasure.

Avatar 2 Movie Review

With 'Avatar: The Way of Water', James Cameron has raised the bar for visual effects artistry so much that most Marvel films seem like blown-up gaming screens by comparison.

Avatar 2 has been in the making for the past decade at least, and it comes out 13 years after Avatar—the film that taught our eyes a thing or two. It made for abiding politics in the man-versus-nature, technology-versus-indigenous knowledge debate.

Avatar 2 Review: “The way of water connects all things. The sea is our home before our birth and after we die.” Beyond the 3D visual spectacle that Avatar is, something we trust James Cameron to deliver, the franchise’s beauty lies in its underlying spiritual arc and ode to continuity of life. Life finds a way. It evolves no matter the surroundings as love is transformative.

Humans call the Na’vi ‘hostiles and insurgents’, when it is they who forcefully infiltrate and occupy their land. Despite its magical, fictional setting, Avatar is not devoid of socio-political themes. It addresses race, civilisation, takes a strong anti-military stand and makes a plea for environment conservation through its simple story of parents and children. A spectacular climax revolves around parents protecting their children and vice versa.

From lush jungles to the gorgeous reefs… the action shifts from forests to the sea this time around and it’s equally meditative and hypnotic. For over three hours you find yourself immersed in the enchanting world of an oceanic clan (Metkayina) or the reef people who give Sully and his family a refuge from humans. The sequel scores high on action and emotion. One is not compromised for the other. ‘Happiness is simple. The Sullys stay together. This is our biggest weakness and our greatest strength,” says Jake Sully and the story embodies that spirit. The tale isn’t unique per se but the storytelling and visual excellence are otherworldly epic. Mounted on a massive scale, not once do you find yourself wanting to return to the real world.

While the predecessor set the bar high for visual effects 13 years ago, the new film takes it a step further. Like the previous film, the director does not use 3D as a gimmick but uses it artfully to accentuate audience immersion in the world and story. Avatar 2 deserves be watched in IMAX 3D. It is the greatest immersive cinema experience of the year. Go blue!

Most Expensive Cars in the World

From Lamborghini to Rolls, automobile makers do not disappoint when it comes to offering the most luxurious and beautiful cars in the world.

Most Expensive Cars in the World

Class, a never seen before design, a powerful engine and comfort- these cars offer these and a lot more.

Here are the 10 most expensive cars in the world and you don’t want to skip this list:

10. Bugatti Mistral – $5.0 Million

  • The Bugatti Mistral sends the iconic W16 engine off in style. With 1 ,577 horsepower and no roof, the Mistral takes the best bits of the Chiron and borrows elements from the Bolide and Divo to create a truly unique roadster. Of course, Bugatti plans to build just 99 examples of Mistral at cost of around $5.0 million in the US — and all of them are already accounted for.

9. Pagani Huayra Imola – $5.4 Million

  • The Huayra Imola packs a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V 12 engine producing 827 hp and 1099 Nm of torque. The Huayra Imola is estimated to cost around $54 million new, which would make it the second most Expensive Pagani of all time.

8. Bugatti Divo – $5.8 Million

  • The Divo shares a lot with the dare-we-say cheaper Chiron, but has a lot more going on for it to justify the price difference. It has lighter wheels, a carbon fibre intercooler and other changes that make the Divo lighter than the Chiron. It makes the same 1500 hp, however, the Divo’s aerodynamic setup makes it 8 seconds quicker on the Nardo test track.

7. SP Automotive Chaos – $6.4 Million

  • Spyros Panopoulos Automotive is a new name in the field of large and ridiculously fast cars. The Chaos (rather aptly named) boasts 2,000 hp from its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V10. There is apparently a more expensive version of this car – one that makes 3,000 hp!

6. Pagani Codalunga $7.4 Million

  • Inspired by 1960s Italian coachbuilding, the stunning Codalunga gets a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 producing 829 hp and 1097 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed sequential transmission for a race-car—like feel.

5. Mercedes-Maybach Exelero – $8.0 Million

  • A one-off ultra-high-performance car a 690 bhp twin-turbocharged V12 engine that does 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and can reach 349 km/h. All this is combined with ultra-fine luxury.

4. Bugatti Centodieci – $9.0 Million

  • The most powerful Bugatti to roll out of the French manufacturer’s production line sits even above the Chiron — not just in terms of power but also in price. The 8.0-liter W16 engine produces 1600 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds. The top speed has been electronically limited to 378 km/h

3. Rolls-Royce Sweptail – $12.8 Million

  • One-off and hand-built, Rolls-Royce Sweptail used to wear the crown as the world’s most expensive car. It was commissioned in 2013 by a super-yacht and aircraft specialist. A 6.75-litre V12 powertrain with 453 bhp under the bonnet, the exclusive Rolls is surely the crème de la crème of luxury.

2. Bugatti La Voiture Noire – $13.4 Million

  • A modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti’s personal Type 57 SC Atlantic that got lost during World War II, the one of the one 1 ,500 hp Bugatti La Voiture Noire was for a bit the ‘most expensive car in the world’ until the Rolls below rolled out

1. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail – $28.0 Million (estimated)

  • A successor to the stunning Sweptail, the Boat Tail has custom high-end finishes inside and a ‘hosting suite’ with a champagne fridge along with a sun umbrella. Rolls do not announce official price tags on their cars since a lot of it is bespoke.

Most Expensive Car Ever Sold - 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe has become the most expensive car ever sold after selling for €135 million (approximately Rs 1,108 crore). The car – previously owned by Mercedes-Benz – was sold in a private auction conducted by RM Sotheby’s at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

The value of the SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé derives from its extraordinary rarity and its significance to the origin story of the Mercedes brand. A descendant of the so-called Silver Arrow cars that dominated car racing in the 1930s, the front-engined 300 SLR was closely based on the eight-cylinder Mercedes-Benz W196 Formula One car driven by Argentine star Juan Manuel Fangio to win world championships in 1954 and 1955. But it had an even bigger, 3.0-liter engine and the moniker "SLR," which came from the German term sport leicht rennen (sport light racing).

  • Only two 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes were ever produced by Mercedes-Benz
  • It gets a straight-eight engine capable of taking the car to 288kph
  • Previous record for most expensive car was held by a Ferrari 250 GTO

The buyer has chosen to be anonymous, with the winning bid being placed on their behalf by Simon Kidston, head of historic car specialist Kidston SA.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR sold at record high price.

The Rs 1,108 crore price tag is a new world record for any car – more than twice the previous record – which was held by a Ferrari 250 GTO when it was sold in 2018 for £52 million (approximately Rs 503 crore).

Only two 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes were made by Mercedes-Benz, and were named after their chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut. The car was designed as a road-going version of the W 196 R grand prix car, with a larger 3.0-litre straight-eight engine enabling it to hit speeds of up to 288kph.

The car sold was chassis 00008/55 – the second of the two cars built, and the one that was used by Uhlenhaut himself frequently. This sale puts the 300 SLR as one of the most expensive items ever to be sold at an auction.

"If you had asked classic car experts and top collectors over the past half a century to name the most desirable car in the world, there's a good chance that they would have come up with the same model: the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLRIt's a combination of exotic engineering, all-conquering racing history, the power of the three-pointed star on its nose and the fact that one had never, ever been sold. Many collectors had tried, all had failed.

The 1955 Mercedes Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe can also be referred as the “Mona Lisa of Cars”.

Previous record holders

  • Many of the top priced cars sold at auctions have been Ferraris. The previous record holder, the Ferrari 250 GTO, had won the 1964 Le-Mans 24 hour. In 2013, a Mercedes-Benz W196 was sold at $29 million (approximately Rs 225 crore). Raced by Juan Manuel Fangio, it was the most expensive Mercedes-Benz to be sold at an auction until the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut.
